In a pivotal moment for Kerala's water security, World Malayalee Council representatives submitted a comprehensive study case report on the poor condition of key dams, including the aging Mullaperiyar structure, directly to then-Chief Minister Shri V.S. Achuthanandan. The handover, captured in this formal ceremony at his office, underscored WMC's role as a bridge between the global Malayalee diaspora and pressing homeland issues.
The report highlighted structural vulnerabilities, seismic risks, and the urgent need for rehabilitation or new constructions to protect millions downstream in districts like Idukki. Accompanied by community leaders and experts, the submission amplified calls for immediate action, echoing Kerala's long-standing concerns over interstate water sharing and dam safety.
This advocacy effort contributed to broader dialogues that influenced policy, reinforcing WMC's commitment to safeguarding our rivers, lands, and people. When safety is at stake, the Malayalee voice—from abroad to the Secretariat—speaks as one.

The World Malayalee Council (WMC) is dedicated to nurturing a global fraternity of Malayalees and individuals of Kerala origin. Through its worldwide network, WMC strives to strengthen cultural identity, promote artistic and intellectual heritage, support community development, and build lasting connections across continents. Committed to unity, service, and cultural pride, the Council continues to uphold the values and legacy of Kerala on the global stage.
