Kerala Flood Relief 2018 – Reaching Champakulam, Alappuzha

Champakulam, Alappuzha

On 2 August 2018, when Kerala faced one of its worst floods in a century, World Malayalee Council rushed to the water-locked village of Champakulam in Alappuzha district. With homes submerged and families stranded, our volunteers reached the most affected areas by boat, carrying hope in the form of essential supplies.

New clothes, dry food packets, drinking water, medicines, blankets, and daily necessities were personally handed over to hundreds of families by WMC members and local leaders. Every bundle was more than relief — it was a message from the global Malayalee family that no one would be left behind in the hour of crisis.

This rapid response in Champakulam was part of WMC’s larger 2018 Kerala Flood Relief Mission that touched thousands of lives across the state. From the backwaters of Alappuzha to the hills of Wayanad, we stood with Kerala — because when our motherland hurts, the entire Malayalee world feels the pain and acts as one.

Together, we rebuild. Together, we rise.

The World Malayalee Council (WMC) is dedicated to nurturing a global fraternity of Malayalees and individuals of Kerala origin. Through its worldwide network, WMC strives to strengthen cultural identity, promote artistic and intellectual heritage, support community development, and build lasting connections across continents. Committed to unity, service, and cultural pride, the Council continues to uphold the values and legacy of Kerala on the global stage.
